Cruelty Free Hair Products
I remember when shopping for hair products meant spending 30 minutes walking up and down the aisles, opening different shampoo bottles, and smelling each of them one by one.
BUT, long gone are the days when my hair product selection depended on scent alone. I now obsess over the ingredients: whether or not it’s sulfate free, is it organic, but most importantly- is the product 100% cruelty free.
So what does it mean exactly?
To be cruelty free, neither the products nor the ingredients themselves can be tested on animals.
As someone who used to be uninformed in this area, I was ignorant to the extremes and horrors that are actually involved in animal testing. I love all animals, including mice, but this goes beyond the stereotypical testing on “lab rats”. Rabbits, cats and DOGS are being kept in cages, poked/prodded and tortured, EVERYDAY! And for what… a stupid beloved shampoo or leave-in conditioner.
Okay, I can get off my soapbox and allow you to research further if you’re interested in knowing the hard facts and truth. But I promise you, after a few images, I guarantee the products you thought you loved (Dove, Aussie, L'oreal- the list goes on) will be garbage. Now once you have that cabinet cleared out, I’m here to be your hair product shopping guide. Trust me, not only are these products NOT tested on innocent animals, but they are all created with organic ingredients that are actually better for your hair anyways. We like to call that a win-win!
That extra dollar or two you spend dropping the Dove and picking up the Avalon will be worth it. Feel warm inside as you support a company who understands the value of an animal's life and the horror that testing entails. It may seem small, simply purchasing a different bottle of conditioner, but as animal lovers we can’t afford to be ignorant. We have to educate ourselves and spread the word to stand together and fight back!
We want to remind you of our biggest shopping tool! We’ve mentioned it in previous posts- but we highly encourage you to download the “Cruelty Cutter” app. When you’re at cruising the shampoos selection, all you have to do is scan the bottle that you’re considering purchasing and the app will INSTANTLY tell you whether or not it is cruelty free. Us Gals don’t shop without it.
A change is coming and it starts with you!
