DIY Christmas Recipes

It’s the holidays and that means we will all be gaining about 2-10 lbs of Christmas cookies, eggnog and every version of cheese on the earth. If you are anything like us gal’s then you want to make sure that your pup is enjoying the same things you are, especially at Christmas time! That way, when the new year comes around and you and your fur-ball are running everyday trying to honor the vow you made to lose all that (well worth it) holiday weight, then he’ll feel included.

So we have pulled together 3 PAWsome puppy approved Christmas recipes for you pup! They are all also great gifts for your friends with fur babies of their own!

3 cups whole wheat flour

½ cup powdered milk

1 cup chicken broth

2 large eggs (set one aside for egg wash)

1 tsp. Peppermint oil

red food coloring (optional)

Whisk all your wet ingredients together until well combined.

Add dry ingredients, one at a time, stirring between each addition to incorporate.

Knead dough on floured surface for 2-3 minutes.

Divide dough in half, make a well in one half and add the peppermint and food coloring-working it in and adding food coloring until desired color is reached.

Place both dough rolls back into bowl, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour to firm dough.

Preheat oven to 350°.

Cover a cookie sheet in foil and spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Whisk egg for wash in a small bowl.

Remove dough from refrigerator, break each dough color up into an equal number of pieces- about a Tbsp. or so in size-depending on the size of the recipient.

Roll each ball into a small snake-like shape.

Work on a long sheet of wax paper creating candy canes to prevent sticking- dough will still be somewhat sticky and that is normal.

Twist one of each color together and bend the end to create a hook shape.

Place your “Candy Cane” on the foil lined baking sheet.

Brush each with egg wash.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Cool completely and store in an airtight container.

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Perfection:

1 cup of pumpkin puree

2 eggs

2-3 tablespoons of natural peanut butter

½ teaspoon of cinnamon

3 cups of whole wheat flour or brown rice flour (gluten free optional)

½ cup of oats (optional- Drake personally doesn’t like oats)

Stir together the flour, oats (if you chose to use them), and cinnamon.

In a different mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, peanut butter and eggs.

Once combined, stir in the dry ingredients until you have created a sort of dough like mixture.

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.

Roll out the dough about ½ thick! Using a cookie cutter shape of your choice, cut out as many cookies as you are able.

If the dough is too sticky, toss a little extra flour onto the mixture and/or hands.

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown, like any other cookies.

As they cool, they will harden to perfection!

Now it’s time to watch your pup feast on this delicious treat!
