Lorena Canals provides schooling for children in northern India. With the purchase of one of their rugs, a customer helps a child attend school. LC believes that education is the key to mobility and vital in breaking the poverty cycle. So their customers not only help children to get an education but also the opportunity to live a better life. My heart is full!!!

Lorena Canals Sakûla project

In 2008 Lorena Canals built a Nursery in Haryana, the North of India, in order to attend children who are in the streets without protection and security, have a place to be, receive one meal a day and the education they need. They currently have 120 kids in their nursery and they hope to increase this number more and more every year!

Baba Jodh Sachiyar public school

During the last years they also started collaborating with the Baba Jodh Sachiyar Public School, giving a part of LC’s benefits of all the products to finance the education of these students. Thanks to this, more than 10 children are schooled every year.

Mix collection

Lorena Canals decided to dedicate their new washable Mix Collection to these children. The Mix Collection has 6 different designs with the names of 6 children who can go to school thanks to the benefits: Ritika, RamLal, Daksh, Aarty, Nancy and Arian.

HANDMADE

From the hands of the artisans who spin and dye the cotton fibers, to the hands of those who weave the rugs, each Lorena Canals item has been handmade by artisans in the north of India, using ancestral manufacturing techniques. This is the reason why their products are unique and original, so you won't find two of the same items in the world!! How amazing is that?!!

NATURAL FABRICS

The Lorena Canals company has chosen to use raw materials with a natural origin, and these are mainly cotton and wool. These materials are environmentally friendly without sacrificing the excellent quality that defines the brand. Their cotton plantations are situated in the northeast of India, which is one of the regions where this plant has been traditionally gathered for centuries, and where the artisans hand select the best cotton fibers to make the washable rugs and accessories.

NATURAL DYES

Applying natural dyes, which allows LC to achieve the best results, and be respectful to the environment, produces the beautiful colors of their rugs and accessories. This process concerns mixing natural dye powders with very hot water. Once the dye is prepared, it is placed in a stone bath filled with water and the mixture is diluted. The cotton fibers are then wrapped around a stick and submerged in succession until the desired color is obtained. These fibers are then hung in terraces to dry in the sun. Once dry, they are taken to the factory in order to make the cotton reels. AREN’T YOU FALLING IN LOVE WITH THIS PROCESS?!! I’m seriously in love!

ECO-FRIENDLY

Lorena Canals is not just concerned with designing phenomenal rugs, but they are also highly concerned for Mother Earth, our home and our future. This is why LC helps to reduce CO2 emissions by promoting the use of natural resources and traditional means of production, in the same way that we are responsible for waste treatment.
