Which Organizations Should You Support on Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday was created on the simple idea to encourage people to do good. One day out of the year non-profit organizations ask that you kick start your holiday shopping by giving to those in need.
Charitable acts are something that we so often overlook and assume someone else is doing, but this year we want to encourage you to get into a different type of Christmas spirit. Join the global movement by donating money, volunteering your time or even simply sharing the stories of nonprofits on your social media platforms.
Below we have our favorite, animal-specific, organizations that we know, trust and respect. Consider starting a charitable habit by connecting with any of the groups below!
Megan’s Organizations
Global Strays
Global Strays is supporting and empowering animal rescuers worldwide especially those rescuers with limited resources thought spay and neuter clinics, education, vet care and more. Some of the places that Global Stays is around the world, animal care is at the bottom of most people’s lists, not because they don’t care but because they don’t have the means or the education. Giving to Global Stays will help fund all of these things for the year 2020.
Collars Rojos
Collars Rojos has a dear place in my heart. If it wasn’t for them I would not have ever gotten Rumba and Papi off that beach in the Dominican Republic. At the last sterilization campaign run by Collares Rojos, which took place in October 2019 in Bayahibe, someone left these little puppies in a box, full of parasites and fleas, dead of hunger and fear. They are now well cared for until we find a family for them. But their life would have been hell if they had had to fend for themselves on the streets. Help us by donating today so we can provide funds for more spay/neuter clinics.
Glen Highland Farms
Border Collies are my life, so any rescues or organization that does something to help the smartest dogs in the world is on my list. Glen High Farms originally launched in NY in 2001, over 3,000 dogs found safe haven through this location, covering all ages from puppies through Seniors. Well respected and noted for outstanding results meeting challenging needs, GHF gained a strong following as a leader in rescue. Other Border Collies rescues I love are BC Rescue and Rehab and BCSaves both located in Dallas, Texas.
The DoVe Project
DoVE Project stands for Dogs of Violence Exposed they are a non-profit organization focused on ending the dog meat trade in Asia, where extreme cruelty and torture prior to slaughter is routine and well documented. We believe that this change ultimately must come from within. To that end, rescue efforts, education, and advocacy are the driving components of DoVE Project. Other organizations helping in the Meat Trade are Korean K9, Soi Dog, and Animal Hope and Wellness.
Cruelty-Free International
Over the past few years I have learned more and more about what is going on to make the products that we use every single day and it is heart-breaking. Cruelty-Free International works to end animal experiments worldwide. We do this by investigating and exposing the reality of life for animals in laboratories. We challenge decision-makers to make a positive difference for animals. And we champion better science and cruelty-free living. Other organizations helping in ending this is The Human Society and The Freedom Project.
Jessica’s Organizations
The Street Dog Project
The rescue group that started it all for me! TSDP is the organization that saved my sweet Pippa and other countless dogs on the streets of Dallas. Their mission is to reduce the homeless pet population not only through rescue, but also through community outreach and education on the importance of adoption, spaying/neutering and proper pet care.
Beagle Freedom Project
With a heavy mission before them, The Beagle Freedom Project fights every single day to end all forms of animal exploitation. Through rescues, campaigns and legislations, BFP has saved countless animals from a lifetime in a cage being subjected to testing and research and all other forms of abuse. This organization is one close to my heart, they were the original group that really shined the light on animal testing for me and opened my else to the products I was purchasing and using every single day.
Ghetto Rescue
I am all about saving every animal possible, but abandoned, dumped, left behind pups are the ones that truly crush my heart. That is why rescues such as the Ghetto Rescue FFoundation are my icons. They are a group made up of fire personnel and civilians who make it their mission to: “Serve low income, high crime rate communities located in, but not limited to, Los Angeles, California and portions of Texas. These areas are saturated with homeless, abandoned, and abused “street” dogs. These poor animals are sick, injured, starving, and struggling to survive. They have no voice and they desperately need help.”
