Coronavirus: What Covid-19 Means For Your Dog

The Coronavirus has brought the world to a standstill. The worst thing about the disease is the confusion - the majority of people don’t know what they can and can’t do because the rules aren’t clear. For dog moms, life is even tougher because you have a pooch to take care of as well as you and your family. Can you take them out for regular walks? What happens if you need to self-isolate? What are the options?

It’s essential to answer these questions so that you don’t end up on the wrong side of a fine or worse. Here is some advice that will hopefully come in handy for dog moms all across the world.

Combine Exercise

Going out to exercise is typically acceptable around the globe. Even Spain and Italy, where lockdowns are at their most extreme, let pet owners take their dogs out for a walk. Still, if you want to reduce the chances of contracting Covid-19, it’s vital to limit your contact with other people. So, an excellent option is to combine your exercise needs with that of your pooch. Rather than hitting the gym, take your dog for a long walk and tire you and your pup out for a quiet evening inside.

Use The Whole Property

Even if you go out once a day, the odds are high that you’ll need to keep your dog occupied. Depending on the breed, he or she could have plenty of energy that needs letting out, or else your furniture may pay the price! With that in mind, it’s imperative to use the entire area of your property and get creative. Head out into the garden and throw a ball around, or put your dog on his lead and jog around the perimeter of the property. A guy ran a marathon using the latter method!

Ask Someone Else To Be A Parent

Okay, so every dog mom’s worst nightmare is contracting the disease and not being able to care for their pet adequately. When this happens, the options on the table are fewer because you must self-isolate to protect yourself and the surrounding community. Thankfully, there are things you can do, such as searching Google for ‘doggy day care near me’ that’s still open. You may be surprised how many haven’t yet closed. Alternatively, a friend may be happy to pick up the slack. After all, it will give them an extra excuse to get out of the house and help them get through the Coronavirus crisis.

Don’t Hesitate To Go To A Vet

Animals are pretty resistant to this strain of Covid-19. At least, that’s what the CDC says if you read their advice. Yet, that doesn’t mean your pet is immune to health issues. Dogs are particularly curious, and that makes them more likely to deal with problems. Please don’t assume that a trip to a local vet is unnecessary. You aren’t an animal professional and shouldn’t take risks, not in this current climate.

Are you aware of what is and what isn’t acceptable regarding your dog? We hope after reading this post, you have a better idea of what is and isn’t acceptable during these confusing times. And remember, we’re all navigating this new way of life together. We dog moms have to stick together.
